Welcome back and thanks for reading! Every single day out here has been a blast. Wednesday was even better since I didn’t work the booth and I finally had a free day. I got up surprisingly early and worked on the blog posts a bit. I organized another lunch with several of my customers and partners and we ate at Delarosa. I had some fantastic Steak Spiedini and was happy because of it all day. Let’s see what else the day held in store!
VMworld 2019 Wednesday
Wednesday is basically the last day for most people including myself. My flight home was Thursday morning at 10:40AM. That means that even though there are sessions on Thursday all the good content is earlier in the week or today. I had grand plans of attending a ton of sessions Wednesday but reality got in the way and I just didn’t have time.
There’s an incredible amount of construction projects happening all over this city and here’s an example I caught from our outdoor seating at lunch at Delarosa. The cubes in front at part of a museum. The hall was light today. Most of the big announcement and some of the giveaways had already happened. The Square was still pretty busy though. The Solutions Exchange is busy as well with everyone getting their last minute swag. Race time! The pool table didn’t go unused. The air hockey table got some use as well this week. The infamous Lite Brite peg board. This was actually pretty neat. You could play VR Baseball here while people watch and laugh at your gyrations trying to make it work.nVIDIA showing off their graphics power.Mini-golf anyone? I watched this guy and others nearly break their hands trying to get the highest score. This guy ran up several times and I thought he was going to hurt himself. Many booths had game show like spinning devices to win prizes. There was even a half court setup. They make hard drives! The Solutions Exchange is over! The workers are clamoring to pack up the booths and move on.The people from The Square are pouring out. It’s a mass exodus at this point. I met some customers and partners at the Keystone Social House again for a few drinks/appetizers and then we decided on dinner. It was a bit of a walk so I took a few pictures on the way there. That is the Westin Hotel at Union Square where I stayed at my last VMworld in San Francisco in 2015.Here’s a cool panorama of Union Square in the late afternoon. We decided to dine at the amazing and famous Sears Fine Food. IT. WAS. THE. BEST. Steak and lobster for the win. If you get the chance, go here and eat. What would a trip to San Francisco be without the obligatory picture of a trolley. We headed over to the VMworld Fest after dinner and hoped it wouldn’t be too bad and it wasn’t.Billy Idol was on the stage when we showed up singing White Wedding. It was packed outside. It was also packed inside. There were some seats we saw from the floor open upstairs so we made our way there. We didn’t realize until we sat down why they were open. There were these giant pillars in our view of the stage. Seems like a bad design for a concert venue if you ask me. Billy Idol was great but he’s getting a little long in the tooth.OneRepublic was the headliners tonight. I just saw them at HPE Discover last year. They weren’t bad and sang a lot of songs you would know. They do the same shtick though and like to tell you how you’ve never heard of them but they’re songwriters for all these REALLY famous people. Overall though it wasn’t the worst VMworld Fest I’ve attended. That’s the San Francisco City Hall. What a surprise we end up here again! We only stayed for a few drinks but we again had a great time.We got invited over to the Everdene rooftop bar at the Virgin Hotel near the Moscone Center. A pretty incredible view from here. More construction what a surprise. We ended up at Japantown after this and although I’d like to share details, I just can’t. We had fun but I had to pull the ripcord at that point since I had an early flight.Thankfully I woke up plenty early and made my flight without issue. We didn’t get far before I saw this and had to squeeze it in. This is the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project. It’s supposed to be a 110 MegaWatt producing site but it’s had a few hiccups. Check out more about it at the wiki here.I made it through the week and home safely. It was a whirlwind of activity with people everywhere. I got to spend some great times with my customers and partners and good times were had by all. What I didn’t get to do was attend all the sessions I wanted to but now that I’m home and the shows over I can stream those to my hearts content and plan on doing just that in the next week or so. Thanks for following my week at VMworld 2019 and please keep checking in for new content!
