It’s day 3 of VMworld 2018 and everything is in high gear. Another crazy day in the books with just constant opportunities for learning, networking and all sorts of fun. I spent the day on the Solutions Exchange floor and talking with colleagues and customers. There’s so much to see and do that it’s hard to get to all the sessions and experience all the content. I’m glad I can stream most of the sessions once I get home. The VMworld experience continues even after this week just trying to catch up on everything you missed.
I got some surprises in the breakdown today. Let’s check it out!
VMworld 2018 – Tuesday
Tuesday is always fun. People have been walking, learning and partying significantly more than normal and it’s always fun to see who went at it a bit hard the night before.
Here’s a few more pics of the show floor and the huge amount of vendors.
The NTT Telecom booth had a really cool augmented reality demo they were showing.
The demo showed a shooting and police response to the incident. It even had little cars driving down the street and people walking around in real time.
Dell showing off some of their gear. I didn’t get a chance to ask why they have a Cisco UCS chassis in there or some C-Series as well.
That’s a whole lot of ExtremeIO.
AMD’s booth keeps growing every year. It’s good to see some competition with NVIDIA. They have the MxGPU technology that apparently is cheaper and as good as vGPU capable graphics cards.
AMD is back into servers from all the major manufacturers. Once again it’s great to see some competition for a change.
Dell has a new blade chassis in the PowerEdge MX7000.
Dell Networking showing off some of their gear. The one of the left is all 100GB ports. Pretty impressive.
This is one of the new blades for the new chassis. It’s the single width 2-socket option.
This is the double width 4 socket option.
I got a much better shot of The Mountain so I thought I’d include it. This guy dwarfs anyone standing next to him.
IBM had a very cool artist carving and creating skateboard art. I didn’t catch his name but he was very talented.
Here’s a few of the skateboards he’s designed.
There’s just too much content every day. It’s overwhelming.
One of our vendors invited us to TopGolf for the afternoon.
Being a vExpert I get to go to the vExpert private party. It’s a collection of bloggers, evangelists, VCDXs and some really awesome and smart people. It’s such an honor to be a part of the program. They had the event at the Pinball Hall of Fame again like last year. This place is so cool.
There are hundreds of pinball machines here.
The organizers were saying that the owners of the place have a warehouse with thousands of pinball machines and they’re trying to get a bigger place so they can put them out to use.
They had some pretty decent barbecue out back. I’m a little biased being from the barbecue capital of the world.
I got to hang out with one of the nicest guys around, Ben Clayton, President of VMUG.
I also got to hang out with one of the hardest working guys at VMware, Corey Romero, VMware Community & Advocacy Manager. He’s the guy that runs the vExpert program.
Guess who showed up to join in on the fun?!
None other than VMware CEO and all around awesome guy, Pat Gelsinger. I said “Mr. Gelsinger could I get a picture with you” and he says “call me Pat, my father was Mr. Gelsinger.” He hung out with us and told stories about his days at Intel. It was a very cool experience.
Back at OMNIA for the Veeam party. This place is awesome.
The place is packed as you can expect.
DJ outside on the roof.
Some great view of Vegas from here. This guys shirt was awesome!
This is a whole other club underneath the other club.
That’s it for Tuesday. We went to do some karaoke after the Veeam party but I’ll keep those pictures to myself to protect the innocent.
