Tuesday is always the busiest day of the week. The sessions and events are stacked. I happened to attend a session early in the day and it was easily one of the best sessions of the show. Some of the sessions tend to be more marketing focused and so this was a real treat. The What’s Next for vSphere session had so many feature reveals and tech previews.
You may have already seen the announcements about the vSphere HTML5 client. If not VMware is deprecating the vSphere Web Client (the flash based client) in the next release of vSphere which means the HTML5 client will have full feature parity. I can’t wait.
This one was an awesome surprise as well. VCSA PSC replication of embedded PSCs to facilitate Enhanced Linked Mode. For smaller environments that’s one less server you need in your management stack.
vCenter Profiles will help simplify deployment and standardization of vCenter servers similar to Host Profiles
ESXi upgrade with NO REBOOT! A 2nd ESXi instance is spun up in memory on the new version and then the kernel workloads are migrated to it live.
vGPU will now support vMotion, Suspend/Resume and DRS. I have so many customers that will be happy about this.
I need to read more about this Persistent Memory (PMEM). There were so many others features talked about as well. vCenter Hybrid Linked Mode is going to let you have a cloud based vCenter and on prem vCenter linked. They also talked about Cross Cloud vMotion, Per-VM EVC and forensic level logging.
Back to the Solutions Exchange for a bit. It’s twice as big as last year and there’s so much swag to be had.
As you may know I was honored and fortunate enough to become a VMware vExpert this year. This comes with many perks but one of the best is the annual VMworld vExpert party. It’s the most exclusive invite only event all week. This year it was at the Pinball Hall of Fame. Food trucks, free drinks and pinball. You can’t go wrong with that.
These guys are the top of the stack. The most influential bloggers, VMTN community contributors and just general super smart guys are here.
I was afraid to test the bad juju of Zoltan. I don’t need that trouble.
Fire roasting some amazing food.
Hey that’s Ben Clayton there. President of VMUG!
Michael Dell and Pat Gelsinger were supposed to be here but unfortunately Mr Gelsinger got sick and couldn’t make it and at the last minute Michael Dell had to cancel as well. Maybe next year.
The Marquee Nightclub for the Rubrik Party. VIP passes got me and my group right in. It was packed as you can see.
A pool in the middle of a club. That’s Vegas!
Time for the show! Yeah that’s Ice Cube less than 20 feet away.
Another crazy busy day done. So much stuff going on here it’s definitely a marathon. Stay tuned for more tomorrow.
